Clear Lake Golf Course came in as a finalist for the 2009 Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award. Our golf management teams commitment to the environment is to "preseve the course for future generations". If each us contributes we can help make a better world.
Greg Holden, our golf superintendent , alongside with the management team, has spearheaded the changes at the Clear Lake Golf Course. We recycle all our plastic, bottles and cans so they don't go to the dump. We also compost all our grass clippings and kitchen wastes which is later used on the golf course. We have composting toilets which saves 300,000 gallons of water each season. If you are on our course and you get a whiff of French fries in the air that is because six maintenance machines are using cooking oil as biodiesel. We annually recycle as much as 10,000 litres of otherwise useless waste product by using the cooking oil.
"The only downside we've found to the cooking oil project is that golfers are reporting a constant craving for fast foods" Holden jokes.
